- Atlantic City Council
On November 10, 2010 the Atlantic City Council became the first elected body in New Jersey to officially oppose the PurGen project. Read the news about their decision. The exact language of their resolution is as follows:A RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION OF THE SCS ENERGY COMPANY PURGEN PROJECT PROPOSAL TO BURY CO2 LIQUIFIED WASTE OFF OF THE COAST OF ATLANTIC CITY
WHEREAS, City Council has become aware of an SCS Energy Company proposal to develop a coal gasification plant in Linden, NJ; and
WHEREAS, while said plant will generate electric energy, it will also generate CO2 waste that is proposed to be piped south from a Union County location and buried off of the Atlantic City coast; and
WHEREAS, the Pur Gen Project has both supporters and detractors, the technology is fairly recent without proven US history; and
WHEREAS, City Council has received public comment in opposition to the PurGen Project; and
WHEREAS, Atlantic City is positioned to be the state’s leader for Alternative Energy and Green Technology installations.
NOW THEREFORE, City Council strongly opposes the proposed PurGen Project and any other undertaking that presents potential harm to our ocean environment and ecosystems.
